"Spawn" follows the afterlife of a deceased assassin named Al Simmons. Simmons was murdered by one of his very own operatives during a mission and was immediately sent to Hell because of the innocent people he indirectly killed during dangerous war missions. Simmons, upon his arrival in Hell, makes a deal with Malebolgia (the devil of the 8th level of Hell), and returns to Earth to be with his wife again after giving up his soul. He returns, 5 years in the future, to find his wife remarried to his best friend. Simmons returns as a different figure, known as Spawn, with Hell powers and a hatred for the people who did this to him. He fights the forces of evil while trying to win over the love of his former Wife once again.
